----------- BRENTY'S 03 -----------
Best Kids Movie
Daddy Day Care
Elf
Finding Nemo
The Lizzie McGuire Movie
Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over
Winner: Finding Nemo
I watched a lot of children's movies this year, but by far the best was Finding Nemo. I wanted to have seperate categories for Kid's Live Action and Animated, but there wasn't many animated movies released in the year. Hopefully, I'll be able to do that for 2004 and on.
Best Comic Book Movie
American Splendor
Daredevil
The Hulk
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
X2: X-Men United
Winner: X2: X-Men United
X2: X-Men United was a very wonderful comic book movie in a year of some disappointing films. X2 was a worthy sequel to the original X-Men movie.
Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Dreamcatcher
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Matrix Reloaded
The Matrix Revolutions
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Winner: The Matrix Revolutions
I decided to give this award to The Matrix Revolutions, but really it goes towards both of The Matrix movies that were released this year. They weren't as good as the original Matrix, but they were some very fun movies to see and I enjoyed both of them.
Best Horror/Thriller
28 Days Later
Darkness Falls
Freddy vs. Jason
House of 1000 Corpses
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Winner: House of 1000 Corpses
Some very good horror flicks were released this year, but I enjoyed Rob Zombie's first film the most of all. It was a great tribute to the 70's horror style and was a great ride.
Best Action/Adventure
The Italian Job
Kill Bill Vol. 1
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The Matrix Reloaded
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Winner: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
The finale of the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy did not disappoint. Granted their were a lot of endings, but there was a lot of wrapping up of the story they had to do. I really loved Kill Bill, but I'll probably wait until next year to give it an award.
Best Drama
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
Confidence
How To Deal
Lost in Translation
Love Actually
Winner: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
One of the first movies I saw this year was Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and it stuck with me throughout the entire year. I was a huge fan of Chuck Barris and The Gong Show growing up, so this movie just rocked my face.
Best Comedy
American Wedding
Bruce Almighty
A Mighty Wind
Old School
School of Rock
Winner: School of Rock
Everything about this movie was awesome. Jack Black gave one of his best performances to date, the kids were awesome and it was a story about rock n' roll. You can't get much better then this.
Best Movie
Kill Bill: Vol. 1
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Love Actually
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
School of Rock
Winner: Love Actually
I'll be honest, I saw this movie just because Keira Knightley was in it. Good thing I did, as everyone from Alan Rickman to Hugh Grant to Emma Thompson were absolutely astounding and made probably the best romantic comedy I've ever seen.
Best Actress
Halle Berry - Gothika/X2: X-Men United
Hilary Duff - The Lizzie McGuire Movie
Mandy Moore - How To Deal
Parminder Nagra - Bend It Like Beckham
Uma Thurman - Kill Bill Vol. 1
Winner: Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore proved with this movie that her great performance in "A Walk to Remember" was not a fluke.
Best Actor
Jack Black - School of Rock
Tom Cruise - The Last Sumurai
Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean
Bill Murray - Lost in Translation
Sam Rockwell - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind/Matchstick Men
Winner: Sam Rockwell
Sam Rockwell's performance as Chuck Barris was so entertaining and spot-on that I had to give him the award.
Best Director
Peter Jackson - The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Quentin Tarantino - Kill Bill Vol. 1
Gore Verbinski - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Wachowski Brothers - The Matrix Reloaded/The Matrix Revolutions
Rob Zombie - House of 1000 Corpses
Winner: Peter Jackson
Peter Jackson directed possibly the best movie trilogy of all-time and definitley deserves the Brenty for his finest work.
